We welcomed 600+ participants frommore than forty countries to the 2018 edition of the Delft Software Days (DSD-INT 2018).They represen- ted more than 230+ organisations. The twelve-day programme included the Data Science Symposium and the annual International User Days of Delft-FEWS, Delft3D, XBeach and iMOD, all with many interactive break- out sessions. There was an impressive number of courses, workshops and training options. Special events this year were the International Flood Round Table, which was organised in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Field Trip to the Maeslant Barrier and the Sand Motor, and the Technical Discussion on model coupling (BMI) organised in collaboration with the Community Surface Dynamics Modeling System group (CSDMS). A highlight this year was the keynote speech 'From Early Warning to Early Action' by Dr Maarten van Aalst, Director of the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre. He spoke at the Delft-FEWS User Days about the importance of decision- making based on Impact Forecasting. Phil Shepperd of Coastal Sciences Ltd. (UK) won the Delft3D Open Source Award 2018 for being the most active community member in terms of posting discussion forum posts and comments in the Delft3D Open Source community and related social media groups. On Wednesday, 14 November the Delft3D Flexible Mesh Suite 2019 was launched during a special festive celebration with a sparkling toast. With this release we have also added three new Academy courses to our portfolio: Delft3D Flexible Mesh - River Modelling, Delft3D Flexible Mesh - Coastal Morphodynamic Modelling and SWAN - Wave Modelling. The next Deltares Software Days (DSD-USA 2019) will be in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on 11–15 March 2019. The Deltares Software Days (DSD-NL 2019) for Dutch software users will be from 18–21 June 2019. This release includes the new modules for D-Water Quality, D-Waves, D-Real Time Control and D-Morphology for 2D applications, in addition to D-Flow Flexible Mesh for 2D applications, which is a major step forward in unfolding the options for integral modelling.
