29 No fewer than 3,500 kilometres of sea and river dikes keep people safe in the Netherlands. In addition to these primary flood defences, the Netherlands has about 100,000 kilometres of other embankments. Stability and safety have to be checked regularly, for example to monitor stability on soft subsurfaces. Deltares software helps with the design and monitoring work for most of these structures. A new program is D-Stability, a product from the D-GEO Suite that is under development. D-Stability includes the most recent know- ledge for the design of embankments and the related checks. It also includes a number of specific options for designing river dikes. The launch of D-Stability was one of the highlights of the 2019 Deltares Software Days last June.
