Delta Life 9

Delft Software Days inspire XBeach has been with us for ten years. Deltares developed XBeach to assess the morphological impact of hurricanes in response to the four hurricanes that hit Florida in 2004, causing major damage. XBeach was innovative: the software was freely available on xbeach.org and open source. Everyone could see the comments, bugs and hidden features. This approach has become much more widespread since. At first, XBeach could be used for sandy coasts only. Later, a team of developers extended the application to coral, gravel and vegetated coasts. It wasn't only the model that grew: the user group also expanded to more than five hundred registered users. To mark the ten-year anniversary, a three-day XBeachX conference was organised during the Delft Software Days. Party for XBeach Deltares SOFTWARE More than 700 people from about 280 organisations visited the Delft Software Days last November. They spent twelve days being inspired by the latest insights in software development and big data. A highlight this year was the XBeachX tenth anniversary symposium at which users and developers of XBeach from all over the world engaged in fascinating discussions for three days. The iOS version of the Nitrate App was also launched and visitors had the opportunity to try out the HoloLens. Deltares organises this annual event with Delft University of Technology and the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education. Would you like to know more? The next Delft Software Days will be on the Deltares campus in Delft in early November 2018. The Deltares Software Dagen for Dutch software users will be in June this year.  Keep up to date: https://softwaredays.deltares.nl /
