Calculating wave conditions and the wave load on the coast and the infrastructure in order to predict how waves change due to wind turbines at sea and changing wind patterns. WAVE FORECASTS The 'behaviour' of sandy and silty coasts, advice for the government about nourish- ment strategies, alternative forms of coastal protection such as oyster beds to reduce erosion or manage salt marshes. COASTAL STABILITY CURRENTS Calculating the growth of shellfish and zooplankton and the e ects of the physical habitat on the di erent species. EFFECTS ON THE ECOSYSTEM Policy, spatial planning and the multiple use of space in the North Sea: getting groups and individuals with di erent interests to work together as well as possible in the same space. SPATIAL PLANNING Predicting how the silt concentration varies with changes in wind and weather, and modelling the growth of algae on the basis of the light climate and available nutrients. TURBIDITY & PRIMARY PRODUCTION
