Delta areas are densely-populated and there is often a lot of
competition for the available space. Even so, land can also
be left unused in these areas. Sometimes because there
are no alternatives: there may be plans to use the land to
mitigate the impact of climate change but, in recent years,
building projects have also been postponed as a result of
the current economic crisis. Whatever the cause may be,
local residents find it difficult to accept derelict sites. Using
the land temporarily for other purposes can often be a
solution. How can we do this sustainably?
