26 In response to an invitation from Cuba, a Dutch Risk Reduction Team (a Dutch team of water experts) was selected to advise on a strategy for limiting flood risks for Cuba , paying particular attention to coastal protection for the Malecón of Havana (Cuba's most famous boulevard). The new Deltares Research Agenda for 2018-2021 , which is drawn up every four years, is online. It allows you to see at a glance the focus of our research activities in the next few years. Go to: https://bit.ly/2Md7LTw A crowd-funding campaign made it pos- sible for the natural history museum De Bastei in Nijmegen to acquire its own sandbox model of the Waal for its collection. The sandbox is an innovation by Deltares that projects water onto sand, providing a kinetic visualisation of the consequences of interventions in river or coastal areas. Deltares is 10 years old! See: https://bit.ly/2MuluCe IN BRIEF IN BRIEF DELTARES IN BRIEF W ith the targeted monitor- ing of water quality right into the very capillaries of agricultural areas, Deltares aims to provide solutions for excess levels of phosphate and nitrate in some locations in the water and the sub- surface (the 'nutrient problem'). Continuous measurements in the river basins allowed researchers to determine when, and through which routes, the nutrients entered surface water. Inmany catchments, a few hotspots have proven to be the cause of excessive nutrient concentrations and the water quality objectives can be met with a very targeted approach. It is expected that the additional monitoring expenses will more than pay for themselves due to the savings onmeasures being implemented in the wrong locations.
