4 Climate change will, in combination with demographic and economic growth, increase flood risks and the long-term vulnerability of communities worldwide. Deltares conducts research with the aim of reducing the social and economic impact of flood disasters, and numbers of human casualties. We also provide action perspectives for the long and short terms. In this theme, we develop knowledge, tools and methods for dike assessment and design, water-level predictions, wave heights and erosion in extreme conditions, and long-termmitigation strategies. Our expertise covers the full scope of flood risk management: from risk calculations to practical support for policy decisions.
